Article 370 is an article of Indian constitution that gives special rights and privileges to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. On August 7, the BJP-led government announced the removal of some provisions of Article 370 to take away Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and announced the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
On centre’s Kashmir move, Home minister Amit Shah said “Keeping in view the prevailing internal security situation, fuelled by cross-border terrorism in the existing state of Jammu & Kashmir, a seperate Union Territory is being created”.
Majority of Indians welcomed the historic decision. People in Jammu are delighted and some are saying “It’s their second independence, Jammu and Ladakh have finally got Justice”.
