Pepe is one of the most popular meme templates on the internet. The green frog with a humanoid body was created by cartoonist Matt Furie. Pepe debuted in Matt’s comic series Boy’s Club in 2005.

Over the few years the character became popular and the internet started using it as a meme template. During the 2016 US elections, Pepe became a favourite meme among far and alt-right supporters to express racist and anti-Semitic sentiments. So Matt Furie killed off his most famous creation in May 2017.
